from Walter Veltroni

The Mayor of Rome Walter Veltroni states that “Through the Nobel Laureates from our city, Capital of dialogue and peace, will be sent a message to consciously reflect upon urgent matters, from sustainable development to the defence of human rights. Such matters are of the utmost importance today more than ever in the light of the main topic of this 8th edition which will involve the next generations, especially those which suffer the most from the lack of the fundamental human rights.
“I particularly think about the dramatic situation in Darfour, about slavery of minors and AIDS which keeps on making victims especially in the less developed countries where the right to accessibility to medical treatments is still a distant achievement”.
Veltroni conclude saying that “It is necessary not to be off-guard and to keep the spotlight on such emergencies in order to give our youth back, that is to say our next generations, the hope for a new world based on dialogue, peace, defence and protection of human dignity”.
