Former Soviet president Gorbachev and Shaq coming to Vancouver for We Day

Former USSR president Mikhail Gorbachev, NBA all-star Shaquille O’Neal and award-winning actress and activist Mia Farrow are among the world-renowned social activists and entertainers headlining this year’s We Day in Vancouver, Free the Children announced today.
About 36,000 student leaders from 1,500 schools across North America are expected to take part in We Day celebrations.
This year’s performers and speakers will come together in Vancouver at the Rogers Arena on Oct. 13 and in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on Sept. 27.
The host in Vancouver is still to be announced, while musician Joe Jonas will host the crowd in Toronto.
Other headliners in the Vancouver We Day event include JUNO and MMVA Award winning recording artists, Hedley, inspirational speaker Liz Murray, and JUNO Award winning Canadian pop icon and producer, Shawn Desman.
We Day celebrates the passion of young people and the positive actions they are taking to make a difference in their communities and around the world.
It is also part of an educational opportunity called the We Schools in Action program where youth volunteer to take one local and one global action during the school year.
Last year alone, youth volunteered 1.7 million hours and raised more than $5.4 million to support local and global organizations.
We Day events are free of charge to students and educators.
