The Permanent Secretariat of Nobel Peace Laureates, which is organizing the Nobel for Peace Summit in Hiroshima (Nov 10-12th) expressed the highest appreciation for today’s statement by Naoto Kan, Prime Minister of Japan, during a question time in the Diet.
“I think it is important that human rights and fundamental freedoms, which are universal values, should also be guaranteed in China…under this viewpoint, the release of Liu Xiabo is desiderable”
“ I am watching whether he will be able to attend the Nobel Prize award ceremony or whether his wife or family members will attend,” said Kan, a onetime grassroot civic activist”
The 11th Nobel for Peace Summit in Hiroshima, wich focuses on nuclear desarmement, will be attended by more than 20 Nobel Laureates, including M.S. Gorbaciov, H.H. the Dalai Lama, Lech Walesa, Frederick De Klerk and Ramos Horta.
An official invitation to attend the Summit has been sent from Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba,M.S. Gorbaciov and 5 former Presidents to US President Barack Obama, who will be in Japan to partecipate at the APEC meeting. Prime Minister Kan and Foreign Minister Maehara have also been invited to attend.
