After graduating from the Institute of International Relations in Geneva, Alexandre Liebeskind joined Paribas bank in 1992. He was first assigned to the bank’s headquarters in Paris for a couple of years, and then returned to Geneva as Head of the marketing and communications department of the Swiss branch. In 1997 he decided to return to his initial interest in humanitarian action and joined the International Committee of the Red Cross. He carried out assignments in Israel and Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Colombia, Liberia, Nepal, Iraq and Sudan where he lead the ICRC’s operations in Darfur from 2004 to 2006. He was then called to the ICRC’s headquarters in Geneva in order to coordinate operations in the Horn of Africa. In 2009 he was appointed Secretary of the Committee and Personal Advisor to the President of the ICRC. Besides in June 2010 he was elected as a board member of Médecins sans Frontières Brussels’s operational centre. Alexandre Liebeskind is Swiss, 45, married and father of two.
