Shan Cretin

Dr. Shan Cretin is General Secretary of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), with responsibility for peace, social justice, and humanitarian programs around the world. She co-founded the Los Angeles Chapter of the Alternatives to Violence Project, offering experiential workshops on conflict management in youth correctional facilities. Prior to coming to AFSC, Dr. Cretin consulted with diverse clients in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East to improve the quality of clinical care and business practices. She directed a demonstration project on rural health insurance in the People’s Republic of China and was a faculty mentor on a project with Israeli, Palestinian, Egyptian, Jordanian and Moroccan health professionals collaborating to improve health care in the Middle East. A graduate of MIT and Yale, Dr. Cretin served on the faculties of Harvard, Yale, West China Medical Center, Shanghai Medical University and UCLA.
