Sonia Neto

Sónia Neto worked in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in New York Headquarters as an adviser to the Director of the Operations group – Africa Bureau.
She was appointed Director of the Political Resource Center that was established by the late Sergio Vieira de Mello (United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor- UNTAET Administrator).
Sónia Neto was Chief of Staff of the Senior Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. José Ramos-Horta, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, during 6 years.
She was also senior adviser to the Special Representative of the Secretary General of United Nations, Dr. Atul Khare.
In 2006, she joined the Bureau of European Policy Advisers of the European Commission (BEPA) as adviser for political issues.
Her research interests are conflict prevention, mediation, good governance, Human Rights, democratization, elections and institution building.
