Vappu Taipale

Professor Vappu Taipale is medical doctor, specialized in child psychiatry. She has served as minister of health and minister of social affairs in Finland, and acted as director general in several national institutes. She has a wide international experience in the European Union, WHO and United Nations, where she was a member and chair of UN University. She has been active in peace movement for her entire life and was in the 80´s a co-founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility in Finland, an affiliate of IPPNW; International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. Dr Taipale participated in IPPNW´s  Global Campaigns in the 80´s and in the Board of SatelLife.  In 2008 she was elected as a co-president of IPPNW. She is married and has four children and six grandchildren.
